The prospect of upgrading or replacing your consumer unit (fuse box) is one of those occurrences that you dread. In many ways you would categorise it alongside replacing the boiler or central heating, but you certainly couldn’t live without any of these and safety is also paramount.
How would you know if your consumer unit needs to be upgraded or replaced?
There are a few things you can look out for on your existing consumer unit. Firstly, it must have an RCD (residual current device) and there is a way you can check this for yourself, but do call us first for advice on 01858 545952. Consumer units with wooden backs are also dated, i.e. as old as the 1950s and will need attention.
Really you should be thinking of your consumer unit in the same terms as any other alarm, i.e. smoke or fire, because it also should be tested and checked regularly. Alongside anything obvious, wiring should also be inspected and tested by an electrician. Kibworth Electrical can send electricians out to check, inspect, upgrade and replace consumer units. We cover Market Harborough and Leicestershire. www.kibworthelectrical.com
